I never know what to say on these things without sounding like those 30-second introductions on The Love Connection. So, here goes: I always have a stack of
books at my bedside that I have to read next... currently it's five high, and I haven't really started any of them. I am always late. Always. I had a
retro-themed roller skating party for my 30th birthday. I am known for coming up with good Halloween costumes; I have become adept at fake bruise makeup
because of those costumes. I like having fun. I love music, especially live music. If I have a free day, I will almost always spend at least part of it at the
ocean.
I love to travel and can order a beer in at least three languages, although sometimes I butcher the pronunciation and order wool instead. I once listened to
loud Norwegian death metal in a Prague hotel bar at two a.m. with a friend and two staff members who spoke very limited English. I never kissed the Blarney
Stone, but I did take a 25-mile bike ride around the Dingle Peninsula and hiked the length of the Cliffs of Moher near Doolin. I've been to an after-hours
wine bar in Galway, an illegal bar in someone's living room in Sligo and a bring-your-own-alcohol karaoke bar in San Francisco. I saw Scotland lose to
France in soccer live, but listened to Scotland beat England in rugby on the radio days later.
I missed the terminal collapse at the Charles de Gaulle airport by a few hours. I have left my wallet on the steps of a bank in Vienna and it was later
returned to me. I have been to an Olympics and held an actual gold medal in my hands. I saw the Black Eyed Peas in an Amsterdam airport and Westlife in a
London airport. Michelangelo's Pieta is the most stunning piece of artwork I have ever seen, but there are dozens of others that have amazed me.
I love sports in general and the San Francisco Giants in particular. I enjoy and going to games with my friends and family, getting a hot dog and a beer and
watching them flail around in futility after years of watching Barry hit a homerun. I also like the 49ers, although they were a lot more fun when they
weren't awful and sad. On more than one occasion I have emailed my friend Jessica to get her thoughts on the latest figure skating competition or
personalities.
I once earned the nickname "Barbara Walters" because I ask so many questions. I love finding out about people. Where they are from, how they got
where they are today, what stories they have to tell. I find that people in the service industry often have the best stories, probably because they're
exposed to the whole spectrum of personalities and social hierarchies. I love people watching.
Well, I can't think of much else to say. I guess that's me in a nutshell.
